"We combine the world of virtual reality and healthcare"
The Science Fair is the largest popular science event in the Czech Republic, organized annually by the Czech Academy of Sciences. It explores science in all its forms and offers visitors the most fascinating insights from the worlds of natural, technical, humanities, and social sciences.
The event presents the most exciting achievements of Czech science to the general public—at one place, at one time. Its panel discussions address topics relevant to contemporary society and cutting-edge research. Thanks to its extensive program, it has become a comprehensive event supporting science in the Czech Republic.
As part of this year’s Science Fair (Veletrh vědy), an interactive exhibition dedicated to the VReduMED project was held, featuring a hands-on workshop. Visitors had the opportunity to try out the cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) VR application – in both child and adult versions. This virtual reality-based application enables users to train in CPR within a simulated environment, thereby contributing to improved preparedness for emergency situations among both healthcare professionals and the general public.
Participants were actively engaged not only through the VR experience itself, but also via discussions with experts about the importance of education in first aid. Informational leaflets about the VReduMED project, its goals, and outcomes were distributed throughout the event, giving visitors a comprehensive overview of how modern technologies (such as VR) can be used in healthcare education and training for both professionals and laypersons.
At the Science Fair, we received valuable feedback for the development of the application—both in terms of technical functionality and content. Examples include issues such as the overlapping of the “reset” and “place point” icons when calibrating the manikin (due to head movement), the integration of mouth-to-mouth breathing in the resuscitation process, and the role of an adult character in the classroom scenario, among others.
